Video: Impacts of Biofouling

GloFouling

The World Ocean Council (WOC), the lead GloFouling project partner for engaging the wider ocean business and investment community, invites interested parties to view the animation produced by the GEF-UNDP-IMO/WOC GloFouling Partnerships on tackling biofouling, invasive species and CO2 emissions worldwide. This animation is designed to raise awareness about two main issues: invasive aquatic species introduced through biofouling, and biofouling

Biofouling UV Light with Lens Optics

IOW UV antifouling

Biofouling is a major problem for technical equipment that has to remain operational underwater for long periods of time. Crusts of mussels and barnacles usually cause mechanical problems, but even thin biofilms of algae and bacteria can damage sensitive surfaces and measuring equipment, as well as interfere seriously with measurements. After about three years of development, an antifouling device designed at the IOW has now

Biocide Mapping Technology Traces Chemicals in O&G Operations

LUX Assure, a specialist chemical monitoring and management solutions to the oil and gas industry, has launched TraxBio, a biocide mapping technology. TraxBio maps biocidal surfactants in oil and gas systems using the chemicals’ propensity to form micelles, or clusters of the biocide. Certain biocides contain some level of micelle-forming surfactants; usually quaternary amines to disrupt biofilms on pipe surfaces.
