Marine Service Technology: Educator Training Conference in July

The American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) is hosting its first “Marine Service Technology: Educator Training Conference” July 23 to 25 in Annapolis, Maryland.

The range of instructors who have signed up include high-school and post-secondary technical instructors who have been teaching marine tech for years, and some who are just starting to think about it. “It’s a perfect place to successfully orient a whole new group of influencers for the future needs of the marine industry,” said John Adey, ABYC president.

The three-day conference will feature topics to enhance the knowledge, delivery and support of marine tech instructors and school administrators around the country. Topics include the evolution of tech ed and the modern student; shop stocking; layout and safety; creating and managing a curriculum advisory committee; the ABYC high-school and tech-school textbook and curriculum; the Evinrude outboard program; and hands-on training aids that bring complicated concepts to life.

Woven around classroom learning, a healthy dose of social time, including a customized tour on Annapolis waterways, will give participants time to network.

Event sponsors include: Evinrude, PowerProducts, Imtra, NMEA, Safe Harbor Marinas and West Marine PRO.
