WHOI Preparing for Whale Research Voyage in Antarctic
In early 2020, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, partnering with Polar Latitudes, will offer a unique opportunity for travelers to accompany some of WHOI’s foremost whale researchers on a voyage of discovery to one of the most untouched and spectacular environments on Earth – the Antarctic Peninsula. The trip will be aboard Polar Latitudes’ expedition vessel Hebridean Sky.
Building on the success of a similar trip in June 2018, the upcoming event, which will take place from February 27 to March 11, will again focus on whale tagging and scientific data gathering and will feature guest excursions. WHOI hopes to include six scientists, instead of four as from the earlier trip – four on the water tagging and two onboard using brand-new technology to analyze water samples. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
